Hello from Utah! I am so excited to be on vacation this week – I spent the weekend in Park City, Utah and will be here through Tuesday and then on Wednesday I’m off to Hawaii. That being said, I don’t have a #MeMadeMonday to share today because I wasn’t home this weekend. I am not a good traveler by any means – in fact, usually there’s no place I’d rather be than at home and sewing is a big part of that. I do try to bring a crafting project of some sort with me when I travel and today I’m sharing my favorites!

Cross Stitch

This is becoming my favorite at the moment – so I figured I’d talk about it first! Cross stitch for me is the perfect mindless but engaging project while traveling. While it does require you to count and focus on where you’re stitching, the stitches themselves are really easy. Emily introduced me to Stitched Modern while we were at Camp and now I’ve ordered twice from there! I stitched up this Beehive (SO cute!) on my trip to Chicago last week and now am working on the Hedgehog. I also am working on the Washington, DC cross stitch – although that might take me 40 years to complete.

Embroidery

There’s nothing better than a good embroidery project. It’s super nice to take on a trip because the pattern is already printed on the fabric and you just need to stitch away. I am not very good at embroidery and only know the basic stitches, but there are still SO many kits to choose from! My favorites include:

  • Studio MME – These are my absolute favorite – I could buy all of them! They are also very beginner friendly. From the foxes, to the hedgehogs to my favorite – the Washington DC embroidery.
  • Cozy Blue Handmade – Look how adorable the fox is and the poppies are! 
  • i heart stitch art – These are so beautiful and intricate. I haven’t tried one of these yet, but I have purchased some. Just absolutely beautiful. My favorite is the bumble bee and the peony.

English Paper Piecing

This is also a great on the go project and is the perfect addition to any zippered bags (or my favorite, Sew Together Bag!) that you’re making this holiday season. Last year around this time, I watched the Craftsy course Quick and Easy Paper Piecing and learned the basics before jumping in. I would highly recommend this if you’re new to paper piecing and want a quick overview. It was so helpful!
