I am so excited to finally share this outfit! I sewed it back in February and it was on display at the Sew Expo in the Style Maker Fabrics booth. This outfit booth pushed me outside my comfort zone, but Michelle – can you pick out all my fabric + pattern combos in the future?!?
The Patterns and The Outfit
This outfit is WAY cooler than me – but I can’t wait to wear it over and over again. I sewed up the Sasha Trousers (oh hey #2018MakeNine!), Ogden Cami and Kochi Kimono.
Sasha Trousers
So let’s talk about the Sasha’s first – I have been dying to make a pair of Sasha’s since they came out. I tried to make a pair and had a tragic welt pocket accident so I had to back away from the Sashas….When Michelle shared that she wanted a pair of Sasha’s for the Sew Expo, I signed right up! I used this awesome 7 for All Mankind Overrun Stretch Sateen Fabric. I usually shy away from patterned bottoms but I LOVE how these turned out!
I sewed up a size 10 which is the same as the size I sew in my Ginger Jeans. they turned out WAY too big. I ended up taking them in almost an inch on both sides. So I would say I sewed up a size 8-ish. I opted to use bias binding to finish off the waistband, which is my favorite feature of the pants even though no one can see it. I also chose to leave off the welt pockets this time (see previous paragraph….) but also because the print was busy and I didn’t want to distract from it.
Ogden Cami
I have a little bit of a love hate relationship with the Ogden. I have a really hard time fitting it – I think I need to do a FBA or something to make it fit perfectly. Instead of doing that (mainly because I didn’t want to add a dart to a sample sewing piece), I just sized up and made a size 10. It fits okay, not the best fitting tank top I’ve ever made, but I think for these purposes it was perfect enough.
I used this suede model woven fabric (one of my FAVORITE fabrics from Style Maker Fabrics). I love the texture and drape of this fabric so much. It is a little bit see-through which I didn’t notice until I had completed the garment and would have extended the facing to be a full lining if I had realized.
Kochi Kimono
I would have never picked this pattern and fabric combo for myself, but I love it! I used this Tonal Stripe Linen Blend Shirting which has an awesome texture and is so spring-ey! I inserted trim using Michelle’s tutorial which makes for an awesome RTW looking garment! I will warn that this fabric is a bit shifty – so it’s not for the faint of heart.
I am not a Kimono girl, but this pattern might convert me! I’ve been eyeing up Kalle’s version ever since I saw it! I really love how this pattern has many different views which makes for a totally different looking garment.
