Happy Monday Everyone! I’m back home after an amazing bachelorette weekend for a friend in Disney World. As a huge Disney World person and was so excited to spend the weekend down there celebrating my friend. I was also really excited that I wore me made clothes all weekend and kicked off the weekend in this Sallie Dress I made at Stitch Sew Shop last weekend.
I have been dreaming of making a Sallie for a while and although I love the look of the jumpsuit on others, I wasn’t sure it was for me. I decided to turn the dress version into a mini dress as a summer staple dress and it exceeded my expectation.
The Sallie pattern has two options for the top – a kimono top or a tie tank top version – and three bottom options – pants, culottes and a maxi dress. I took the kimono maxi dress version and shortened it to hit above my knee. The maxi dress includes a slit which I did not include and just decided on a length based on a measurement from my waist down.
The pattern includes a lined bodice, but because I used a rayon jersey I decided to also line the skirt. I was glad I did that because of the fabric, but for my next one, I would want to use a fabric that would not require lining just to make it a little bit easier. The bodice in the pattern is fully lined and makes for a beautiful finish. It also has an elastic waist which allows the top to be a little blousey on top.
For the skirt, I was going to not hem it, but ended up hemming the outer skirt and cutting the lining skirt to be shorter than the outer skirt. I used a double needle to sew a deep hem on the skirt. One day I’ll have a coverstitch machine, but today is not that day – so until then I will either default to not hemming or using a double needle.
I would like to figure out how to hack this into a shirt. That kimono top is amazing and I would love to have a shirt with that neckline. I am always nervous to tackle hacks, but this might be one that I try out!
I wore this dress on the plane down to Disney World and then the rest of the day in the parks and it could not be more comfortable or easy to wear. It was so comfortable and looked cute throughout the day. I couldn’t finish this post without a few photos of me in the dress in Disney World, right?
It even survived Splash Mountain — I know this doesn’t show the dress, but my expression was too good not to post…
