Sometimes I think about those RTW tops I’ve always steered away from at stores because “Oh that won’t look good on me…” or “That’s not me…” and how now I dive right in with sewing patterns. This is a perfect example of a top that I LOVE but would have never picked up in a store.

I’ve admired Sew Caroline’s patterns for a while, but have never sewn one before. When the Primrose Peplum top came out, I sewed it up immediately last Sunday night. It is such a cute and flattering top that is another example of secret pajamas! So comfortable and looks super cute.

As this is my busy time at work, I only have a couple hours a week to sew, and I decided to take advantage of it with this top!

When looking at the pattern, I knew that a drapey rayon would be a perfect fit for this top. I had purchased this rayon from Stitch Sew Shop at the beginning of the year and I think it turned out really nicely. The circle skirt in a rayon is so flowey and drapey (ps – I don’t think those are words…but I use them all the time…).

I think I’m falling in love with circle skirts. I love this one even more than my Saiph Tunic – I think because it’s a little bit more fitted and looks less like a tunic and more like a top that can go from work to going out to dinner in the evening.

I chose to make the 3/4 length sleeve with the straight cuff and the circle skirt. I really enjoy patterns that have a lot of variety – this pattern comes with two different skirt options and a variety of different sleeve options allowing you to make it multiple times in different variations. As a serial pattern repeater – this is a win for me.

I did make some modifications to the pattern to make a better fit for me. I decided to not insert a zipper and instead cut the back bodice and back circle skirt on the fold. I also decided to do a bias binding instead of the facing as bias bindings tend to sit a little bit flatter on my neckline than a facing. As someone who was 100% against bias bindings not too long ago, this is a huge step for me to willingly chose to add one! I purchased this Liberty Bias Binding from Liberty Haberdashery on Etsy and it was a quick and easy way to add bias binding to the neck.

Instead of doing a traditional hem, I decided to do a rolled hem on the serger. Easy and adds to the flow of the skirt!

This was a great addition to my Handmade Closet and can’t wait to make another one!
