I finally finished up my Lonetree Jacket as the next installment of Lara Liz makes the Indie Sew Fall collection a couple seasons late….but this make has made it to top of my favorite makes list. I am so in love with the way my Lonetree Jacket turned out – and am so excited to share it with you all today!
I purchased a kit from Indiesew back in the fall for this navy twill to make the Lonetree Jacket or vest. After finishing up the jacket, I am ready to start right on the vest — both of these are on my #2017MakeNine so I’m happy to be crossing one things off my #2017MakeNine list!
The Lonetree Jacket was the first pattern released by Allie Olsen – the amazing woman behind Indiesew — and talk about a big first pattern! This jacket has so many features of it that make it look like a ready to wear jacket. By looking at my pictures, you can tell the collar is my favorite part of the jacket as it makes it so structured. Super odd thing to love most, but it is my favorite – once I put the collar on I was like wow, it really looks like a jacket!
My least favorite part? The snaps. Goodness did I have a tough time at those. Were they worth it? Absolutely, but I am not cut out to install hardware on clothing. That is why none of my Ginger Jeans have rivets….
I took pictures of my jacket yesterday and it was 87 degrees and while I LOVE the heat, I was disappointed I couldn’t wear my jacket. Today it’s still warm, but rainy, so I am wearing my jacket despite the temperatures.
If you do plan on making the jacket, I would highly recommend Allie’s sew-along that’s on the Indiesew Blog. She includes so many helpful tips and tricks that aren’t included in the instructions. I also find pictures so much easier to follow as opposed to illustrations.
I sewed up the majority of the Lonetree Jacket with my sewing twin Emily who now has a matching jacket too. The only difference between our jackets is our choice of hood linings. We both chose a Liberty print and I chose this really pretty white floral Liberty print for the hood. We also decided to do Hong Kong Seams (note to self: I will be avoiding those in the future…) and used the Liberty print for those as well. Picking lining and facing fabrics for sewing projects never gets old for me – it’s such a fun way to make something totally you!
I didn’t make any adjustments on the pattern and sewed a straight size medium. The only thing I would change in the future is to shorten the sleeves a bit, but other than that, it fit perfectly!
While nothing in the Lonetree Jacket is particularly difficult, there are a lot of steps. I’ve been slowly working on the Lonetree Jacket since late February. As someone who is a totally monogomous sewist, this was a long time to have a WIP. I am so excited that it’s now ready to be worn. This joins the rest of my Indiesew Fall Collection Garments – my Bonn Shirt, Toaster Sweater, and Chi Town Chino Skirt – I just have Chitown Chinos to go. But now, I want to sew up the Spring Collection – should I start with the Highlands Wrap Dress or the Hampton Jean Jacket first??
